As a result of the Industrial Revolution in England, 60% of the immigrants to Canada were British. This made them the largest immigrant group in Canada. Other countries migrated as well: Irish, Chinese, American, Russian, Jewish, and of course the French make up just a few of these countries. The impact of the Great Migration had a profound impact on our Canadian culture. Canadians of French decent originally outnumbers the English in the beginning, but by the end of the Great Migration Period the English more than doubled the French Canadian population and expanded into Lower Canada.
